This is an assembly plan to teach children about Lent and why Christians perform good deeds during Lent. It is suitable for ages 5 -11. The 4 page plan (pdf) includes an introduction, an anecdote relevant to the children, a parable, a reflection and a prayer to finish. It is highly interactive, with questions and answers throughout. An optional 19 slide PowerPoint (This is non-editable - click ‘Read Only’ to open) is also included. It contains information about Lent, the anecdote, suggested good deeds and an illustrated version of the parable. No resources are needed, so the plan is ideal to use without requiring preparation. International Women's Day Assembly - Women's History Month

This resource includes an assembly plan and 19 slide PowerPoint to use for Women's History Month or International Women's Day on 8th March. No further preparation needed. The assembly is suitable to use with KS2 or secondary aged children. The slideshow provides the opportunity to discuss why we might focus on women's history, before moving on to give details on how women's circumstances changed from ancient times to today. There are 10 slides which outline key achievements of 10 different women, from Marie Curie to J K Rowling. The plan (pdf) gives details about how to use the slideshow. I like to lead assemblies that are interactive and relevant to the children's lives, so the plan gives plenty of opportunity for children to discuss ideas, give feedback and reflect. The PowerPoint and plan are in the zip file. The PowerPoint is not editable. Please click 'Read Only' to open. Some of the images are only revealed when the PowerPoint is played as a slideshow with the animations. Updated in February 2024.

The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! In this assembly, children listen to an Old Testament story. There is a 16 slide animated PowerPoint included which contains the story. (This is non-editable. Click ‘Read Only’ to open the PowerPoint). The plan finishes by introducing children to what happens on Ash Wednesday and how this is linked to the story the children have heard and to their own lives. The Good Samaritan assembly

This is a plan for an assembly on differences. It is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. This assembly uses a school scenario similar to the story of The Good Samaritan. It involves asking for volunteers during the assembly to do some easy acting, something I always find maintains the whole school’s interest. It concludes with a discussion of Jesus’ parable of The Good Samaritan, which I would tell in just a few sentences, though you can use the link to a clip or read from the Bible. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with.
